About Payday Stories

What the work actually pays

Last updated August 13, 2026

We started Payday Stories in 2023 for a simple reason: the writing we wanted to read about pay & payslips, negotiation, side income mostly did not exist, and what did exist was selling something.

Our house style is direct, worker-side, specific about numbers. We would rather publish one piece that holds up than five that fill a schedule.

What we cover

The site is organised into 6 sections:

  • Pay & Payslips — Gross to net, deductions, and reading a payslip properly.
  • Negotiation — Asking for more, benchmarking and what actually moves an offer.
  • Side Income — Second jobs, freelancing and whether the hours are worth it.
  • Hours & Conditions — Overtime, shifts, contracts and the value of time nobody prices.
  • Cost of Living — What a wage buys, where it goes and how that has changed.
  • Rights at Work — Contracts, notice, sick pay and the entitlements people do not claim.

Who writes it

Every article carries a named writer with a profile page, and nothing is published anonymously. You can see the full list on our writers page.

How it is funded

Advertising pays for this site. It does not buy coverage, placement or a favourable word, and our editorial policy sets out exactly how that separation works.

Who publishes it

Payday Stories is published by Wage & Column Press, a sole proprietorship of Pallavi Joshi, House 14, Ramdaspeth, Nagpur, Maharashtra, 440010, India. Telephone: +91 99914 17447.

Corrections

We correct errors of fact promptly and visibly. If you spot one, tell us — see the corrections section of our editorial policy for what happens next.
